In 2011, two kids finally connected in their high school photography class. First we fell in love with photography, then we fell in love with each other. Between building our portfolios and building a lasting friendship, something incredible began to bloom. Those teenagers went on to grow up, get married, and create a family of their own.
After graduation we wanted to give something back to the school and the community which had given us so much. During the week you could find us coaching the marching band where we first met and supporting some amazing students. Practices were typically three nights a week, and we gave it our all. Practically every Saturday was spent on the road with those kids, traveling to and from competitions. On Sundays we served in our church, with Ryan playing in the Praise and Worship Band while Brianna helped wrangle the kids in the nursery. We always felt a drive to create meaning outside of our day jobs.
Mill Run Photography came to be after having our two children. Our oldest, Liam, spent the first year of his life on the marching field with us. Once we found out we were having our second, Sydney, we knew it was time to step back from coaching. It was a difficult decision, but we knew we would be stretched too thin, and our little family would always take priority.
That following fall, as we were planning a trip to Pittsburgh to visit some of our marching band alumni, we recieved a message from an old friend. She was eloping and knew we were hobby photographers, so she asked if we would photograph her special day. That exchange ended up redirecting our path in the most wonderfully unexpected way. We went to the courthouse and had an amazing morning documenting the love between these two special people. We left their wedding to travel straight to our weekend in Pittsburgh, cameras in tow. Spending the day exploring and photographing the city, and the evening excitedly editing the elopement; we knew something was changing for us. It felt like a full circle moment. The closing of one chapter of our lives, while opening a beautiful new installment. Through Mill Run we are able to pour ourselves into our children, while still creating meaningful relationships with the people in our community.
One of the greatest things about being photographers is having the chance to get to know our clients. When you’re on a shoot with us you can expect lots of jokes and laughter. We want you to feel comfortable opening up and being yourself!
With our history in street photography we have developed a unique set of skills which help us to bring an unposed, candid style to our shoots. Whether it’s a family portrait, couples session, or wedding, we want your pictures to truly capture your experience.
We’re not sales people and we won’t be pitching you packages a week after your shoot. With us, if it’s a good shot you’re getting it. So please, take a look around! We’re sure you’ll like what you see, and we would love to help you tell your life story.
